Measuring Up
A guide to measuring up for our made-to-order furniture.
There is nothing worse than waiting for your brand new furniture to arrive and then finding out on the day of delivery that you can't get it into the room you want it to go. As a general guide, if it was easy to get your existing furniture in, and the new furniture is the same size, there should be no problem, and it's worthwhile comparing the measurements of the furniture you already have with the model you want to replace it with. It's always best to spend 10-15 mins making sure your sofa will fit and our delivery team can get it to where you want it to be.
Start with the basics: Get the dimenions of your chosen sofa and keep them handy. Grab a measuring tape and follow our guide....
Measuring Up Steps...
First make a note of the dimensions of the item you are considering...
a. Sofa width .........................
b. Sofa height ........................
c. Sofa depth ..........................
Remember that as our furniture is handmade that dimensions can vary + or - 3cm. Please take this into account when measuring up.
Open your front door as wide as possible and measure the narrowest points, this is between the outer edge of your door and the inner edge of your doorframe. If the width of this measurement is wider than the height of your sofa then there shouldn't be a problem.
Measure the width of any areas such as corridors, internal doors and bends that the sofa must pass through to get to your room of choice. Always measure the narrowest point, taking into account radiators, light fixtures, large pieces of other furniture, shelving etc. As long as the widths at each narrowest point are greater than the height of your sofa then there shouldn't be a problem.
Be mindful of internal bends! Should the sofa need to go round a ben it may be necessary to stand it on its end. Check that the floor to ceiling height here is greater than the width of your sofa.
If your sofa needs to be taken up some stairs, measure the width at their narrowest point, taking into account any handrails or light fixtures. If the width is wider than the height of your sofa then it should fit.
If you have a bannister and the sofa needs to be lifted over, check that the measurement between the bannister and ceiling is greater than the depth of your sofa. If there is a landing then check all your measurements here too, making sure there is enough space to turn your sofa and get it into the room.
If you have a lift at your property then measure the open-door height and width, as well as the depth of the lift to make sure the dimensions are greater than those of your sofa.
If you think your dimensions are extremely tight but you have your heart set on a certain sofa then our delivery team can carry out an access check at your property for a fee. Please speak to one of our staff members who can obtain a quote for you. Prices depend on your postcode!
